The Womble MPEG-VCR is an application software for editing compressed digital movies that are compliant with the MPEG international standards.
Written in C++ and multi-threaded, the software is based on a scalable, extensible, and object oriented architecture.
With the scalability it will automatically scale its performance on multi-processor systems while achieving the maximum concurrency. With a multi-processor workstations, the software editor has the potential of real time editing comparable to any special hardware system in the foreseeable future. It could eliminate the need for expensive hardware accelerators currently being used to accomplish the same task.
The software is written in C++ without the use of any system dependency, although it can be optimized for specific hardware systems such as Intel's Pentium MMX technology. With its OO design its core technology can be modified to meet customer needs on a short-notice.
The software is currently provided as an end-user application for the Windows platforms. It could also be licensed as a Software Developer Kit (SDK) in the form of C++ class libraries for the Windows platforms, and be customized for specific hardware systems and applications.
The current release for the end-user application has been implemented for Win32 systems including Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT.
